The Field Trial 'Rig' 2014 GMC Sierra Truck and Jamco Trailer
I designed what I consider to be the Ultimate Amateur 'Field Trial Rig' with the help of Dan Battistella on our way home from a summer training trip out west. You can get a lot done during a 20 plus hour road trip!
Jamco Trailers in Canada built it to my drawing and specs (after converting from Bar Napkin to 3D CAD model). It is 16' (on the floor) with an 8' goose-neck modified stock trailer. It has several of their most functional features used on their higher end models as well. I built the dog boxes and finished out the interior with the exception of the sleeping quarters in the goose-neck. Tracey gets all the credit for this comfortable and cozy place for overnight camping or just napping. The Truck is a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT with the HD towing pkg and some additional modifications. It has over 400 hp and 400+ ft. lbs. of torque. The 5.3l pulls the rig very safely down the road at 70 mph without any issues and gets 11 to 13 mpg fully loaded. All of the animals have excellent ventilation and arrive safe, rested and with a minimum of fatigue. |
Three place matching Dog Box in the PU box for taking a few out to work on foot or for any other running around.
The Dog Boxes are all aluminum construction with Rubber truck mat floors and the entire surface is coated with a 2 part Epoxysiloxane to prevent oxidation and staining on the dogs. All are medium ' Vari-Kennel' size. All six boxes can be loaded via doors from inside or outside of the trailer. With the three behind the cab we can travel with 9 dogs without any 'loose' kennels. There is also a matching aluminum tread-plate 'Boot Box' that hold all kinds of other tack, gear and dog supplies.
The RR tack room is collapsible and has room for three saddles in front of the 35 gal water tank. There are enough hooks, tubes and places for all of the other required tack, stakeouts, feed, water, and other cleanup equipment. The slant wall opens and is lined with hooks that keep all of the training and field trial gear easily accessed, organized and well maintained.
